Dr. Bhaswati Bhattacharya

how it works

At our initial visit we will invest two hours, during which we will talk about YOU as the expert of your body and how I can help you. The initial consultation fee is $400 per hour. It is due at the time of service. You should complete the holistic health intake form, as it will help us to focus on your needs and issues. Before your visit, please download a copy, sit quietly with a cup of tea and connect with yourself, then complete the form.

During the visit, we will discuss how you feel things go when you get sick and what is happening in your body then from a medical point of view. We will discuss basic physiology so you can understand your body better. I will assess what is going on, suggest both conventional medicine and non-conventional options for testing and for treatment. I often use pulse diagnosis, generally do some energywork, and some counseling and education on anatomy or physiology. I will do a focused physical exam, and we will then talk about lifestyle issues, including exercise, nutrition and some holistic modalities appropriate for you.

Then we will prepare a tentative action plan. Usually this involves a combination of modalities, including Ayurveda, herbs, yoga, massage, meditation, homeopathy, supplements, TCM remedies, nutrition, and sometimes some exercise options, depending on what is going on.  You will tell me what you are comfortable and uncomfortable using, and then we refine a plan that you want to follow.

During the first visit, we will formulate some short-term and then medium-term plans for helping you with whatever you feel you need help with. I will help you set up homework for yourself so that you can take small steps forward in whatever direction you need.

In this way, the patient walks away with a definite plan that s/he wants to adhere to. Subsequent visits are billed at $400 per one-hour visit, which can extend on mutual agreement, depending on the complexity and time spent.

I work flexibly with payment schedules for students, and I will make case-by-case arrangements for those needed. Please contact me if you would like to work out a payment plan.

making the most of your visit

Once we are committed to your initial visit, please write to me about your story. Include the first memories of being sick, and how the past ten years have been, what you feel are your weak parts of your body, how your gut has been, what your main emotions are, and how you have felt.  We will work holistically.  Be as poetic, philosophical or concrete as you like. And of course everything is confidential.

Please complete the holistic medical history form and bring it to our visit. Also, please bring a food diary if you have time.

I see patients at GoodMedicine Works. by appointment only. I have tried to replicate the old style of seeing patients: personal, attentive, one at a time, with enough time.

After your visit, I will send you a receipt with all necessary CPT and ICD-10 medical coding for you to submit to your insurance company/ HSA or flex spending/ accountant for reimbursement. You should bring a copy of the back and front of your insurance card for your file.

I look forward to working with you.

Blessings,
Dr. Bhaswati Bhattacharya

logistics

Your initial visit with Dr. B. will be either one or two hours in length, depending on your needs. The consultation fee for each hour is USD$400, for which you will receive you a detailed physician's billing statement with medical coding. Follow-up visits usually require 30 to 60 minutes with the doctor and are billed at $400 per hour.

Because Dr. B. is a licensed, board-certified physician, insurance companies often reimburse according to the ICD-10 and CPT coding provided for general medical care at the standard of a family physician, which is included in the visit.

You may submit the invoice along with a signed claims form and send it to your health insurance plan for reimbursement; depending on your agreement, you may receive up to 100% reimbursement. You can also definitely use the invoice as a receipt for USA tax deductions on Schedule A, Medical and Dental Expenses. You may also choose to have a Health Savings Account to quality for health care tax deductions.

Dr. B. is no longer a Medicare or Medicaid provider and does not have contracts with any health plans, PPOs or insurance quotas or networks. Therefore, she is not required as a contract physician to see patients for the standard period of time (about 7 minutes) and using only standard-of-care medicine (drugs, blood tests, CT scans/radiology and surgery). She values your care enough not to discount it.

approach

For the past 25 years, Dr. Bhaswati Bhattacharya, MPH, MD, PhD, DABHM, FABPM, HHC, CAP*, has been practicing holistic family medicine emphasizing Ayurveda, and teaching best clinical practices and educational techniques for learning Integrative Medicine.

She currently works between her solo private consultation medical practice in Manhattan and her deeper study of indigenous medicines around the world, when she consults with patients via phone/video conference.

Specializing in The Patient, Dr. Bhattacharya actively incorporates traditional and indigenous medical systems into her clinical practice of holistic family medicine, using modern science only where it actually works for real patients. The goal is not a clinical trial; it is to help each patient improve his/her quality of life, health, and well-being. She defines, refines and practices medicine on a holistic and truly integrative path. She provides holistic medical care for the underserved as well as for insured patients.

Modalities include herbs, nutrition, yoga, breathwork (pranayama), exercise counseling, energywork, mind-body medicine, homeopathy, aromatherapy, with a strong underpinning of Ayurveda, as well as the use of biomedical drugs and procedures as needed.

As the first US Fulbright Scholar sponsored jointly in 2013-2014 by the US Dept of State and the Government of India to research and teach Ayurvedic medicine, Dr. Bhattacharya continued research in the clinical and physico-chemical bases of bhasmas, herbometallic compounds that often work quickly and cleanly to rebalance the body from 'incurable' diseases. For her PhD thesis 2014-2018, she studied how plants work medicinally, from soil to stomach to cell.
